WHOM SHALL I SEND?
By Professor Dieu Hack-Polay

When Isaiah responded to God’s call to be his voice among the people, he knew it was not an easy task. But he responded positively to the call as the scripture says:
ISAIAH 6 V. 8
Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”
God has already appointed Christian Professors in an influential position to carry out the duty of being God’s voice in academia and in this increasingly darkening times. The knowledge that academics have can be an instrument to support evangelism in a world where the enemy is using the voice of science to suppress believers and the Word of God.
It is clear that our message will not be popular in political, media, showbiz, and secular circles. The world has blinded many in recognizing the truth about our origin and destination as human species. Thus, many see humanity as a standalone accidental evolution, which, when dead, is finished. Our message about the resurrection and everlasting life wits in sharp contrast with this and will not be popular. But our conviction through the Holy Spirit that all things were created by God and for God should give us the courage to withstand all oppressive forces and proclaim the truth. The truth about the Gospel is disturbing because it stands in the way of ungodly practices such as sexual immoralities, unfaithfulness, murder, animosities, enmities, selfish and unloving ways, greed, idolatry, etc.
In many respects, the evangelism terrain today is as hard as in Isaiah’s time. This should not be underestimated. Nonetheless, we have more tools at our disposal today. For example, we have large educational institutions accommodating millions of people in need of the Good News; we have the information and communication technology to maintain contact; we have several referral agencies and churches, etc.
As Christian professors and students, we know that the truth about the Gospel of Jesus Christ is about spiritual and social order for ourselves in this life and in the life everlasting to come. We are well aware that the principles that the Bible prescribes are of a higher order and can restore our societies. Christian academics are in a great position for evangelism, yet this potential is not exploited. They have access to millions in the field of harvest. Christian academics should be able to answer God’s call to be his voice to restore morality and belief in our schools, colleges and universities, and by ricochet, in the wider human society. Jesus says in Matthew 9} 35-38 that the harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Could Christian professors answer the call because they have been placed right in the middle of the harvest.
